Head of Design, Domingo Rodriguez sat down to talk about the Autumn/Winter 2015 collection; here are some of his thoughts:
I think a good word for this collection is refinement – I’ve tried to build on signature pieces and looks that have been developing over the past three winter collections, and add some dynamism to the silhouette, to enhance the body contouring and tailored shapes. There is innovation in the panels, to accentuate a masculine body shape and suggest an active life – which is very much what we see from our clients. We’ve added some detail to the cleanness that was there, but it is subtle – it is not immediately obvious but will give enjoyment as the pieces are worn and they are discovered.
What are some of the new details?
We have been developing garment construction with innovative seams that accentuate the masculinity and strength of the body shape – enhancing the shoulder line, accentuating the upper back, making the waist look more tapered and elongated. Whilst also developing new signature set in pocket shapes for a modern finish and technical closures.
We’ve been working innovatively with rib in jersey, it enhances mobility by giving the garment more stretch and it has a sporting look. Then with the Softshell line, we’ve added details that elevate the styles – Garrick, Reed, Shute – into a crossover of sports-active and fashion – these are pieces that look great in casual-wear looks, they’re not just for the gym. We’ve also brought great new colour-ways and are taking Softshell into bags for the first time.
What are the key colours for the collection?
Well Navy continues as our signature colour across almost every category – outerwear, including a new navy Softshell, knitwear, shirting, trousers and accessories – it may sound monotonous but when you combine different fabrics and textures in navy you can create a very sophisticated look that has a lot of interest.
Some of the seasonal colours in this collection include a great deep purple, forest green that we’ve used on our tailoring, and a directional warm concrete colour that we’ve used on Tailoring and Softshell lines. It’s a great palette – easy to wear but some opportunities for some statement pieces in the mix.
What is the piece you’re most looking forward to wearing?
I’m most excited to start wearing the Coleridge coat, we’ve taken a classic winter shape and really refined into a clean modern, progressive piece with interesting technical details like the set in pockets and rubber touch buttons. I think the Quant merino rib knit hoodie will be a really versatile piece for layering and I love the subtle body conscious details we have created through the rib textures and refined finishes we have with the gunmetal and short cord hardware.
